Wood roofs, written up
Cedar Shake Roofing in Berkeley Lake, GA
Repair or replacement of cedar roofs, with every detail that wood depends on written into the scope.
Specifying What a Cedar Roof Needs
On a wooded lot, few materials look as at home as cedar, and its texture and color deepen as it weathers. Cedar is still wood, though, and it spends its life taking on moisture and swelling, then drying and contracting, so its longevity depends on an installation designed around that cycle. Each shake needs a measured gap to its neighbor so it can expand without buckling; each course needs interlayment beneath it so water that slips past is turned back to the surface; the underside needs a path for air so the wood can dry from both faces; and the fasteners must resist corrosion so they neither streak the shakes nor give way. When we survey an existing cedar roof, we photograph and locate split, cupped and soft shakes, moss, gaps where pieces have gone missing and tired flashing, and we estimate what share of the roof is affected. Where the deterioration is localized, the quote states how many shakes will be replaced and which flashing will be renewed. Where it runs across the whole roof, we explain why a new cedar roof is likely to cost less over time and specify that installation in the same level of detail, so the finished work can be checked against the page.
